Melissa Crystal O'Neil was born on July 12, 1988[1]. She is a Canadian actor and singer. O'Neil was the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's third season, won it in 2005. In her role as an actress, she is most well-known for her role as Two as Rebecca as Two / Rebecca / Portia Lin in the Syfy science fiction series Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was highly praised by judges, O'Neil had a huge setback in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals being voted into both the lowest three and the bottom two in both the bottom three and bottom two. Disappointed, the judges advised viewers to vote for contestants similar to Melissa, who clearly had the most impressive vocal skills. O'Neil's performances were constantly praised and O'Neil was not relegated to the bottom three. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a threat to win it all". The 7th of September, 2005, O'Neil made it into the final two spots of the show, competing alongside Rex Goudie, and after another stunning performance and performances, judge Werner famously declared that the headlines in the next day's news would be "The King [Kalan Porter] has died Long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the grand finale results showon the 14th of September, 2005. She was also named the third Canadian Idol and the first female winner.
