Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, her grandmother, and her godparents. Her father left her family. In her early years, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to associations with words. Ford's interest in acting began in her early years. She joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she wasn't a good fit. Ford applied again for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and on her fourth application, she was finally accepted. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. The actor went on to get regular roles in the shows Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford's debut on TV was a 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in TV programmes like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning in the Nineties. Tate would also frequently work in theatre and eventually joined The Royal Shakespeare Company during its season between 2000 and 2001. However, Tate soon began to garner recognition for her stand-up comedic performances and added stand-up comedy to her resume in the year 1996.
